A novel manufacturing process has enabled the Shanghai operation of Morgan Advanced Ceramics to capture a third of the Japanese market for high quality igniters and flame sensors used in gas or oil burner systems. Since formation only seven years ago, export markets have risen to 90% of Morgan Shanghai's igniter and sensor production. Markets include the USA and, increasingly, Germany - traditionally the home of technical ceramics.
The secret of Morgan's success lies in its low-pressure injection-moulding expertise, which enables complex components to be produced to close tolerances in a single, fully automated operation.
The technology was perfected by Morgan to deliver the medium volume call-off required by producers of electronic ignition systems.
Applications include furnaces, driers, boilers, radiant heaters, ovens, cooker hobs, refrigerators and infrared grilles for industrial or domestic markets.
In combustion control, safety and reliability are paramount.
Morgan's igniter and sensor products are based on high purity alumina or steatite.
They exhibit excellent dimensional stability and electromechanical performance characteristics at elevated temperatures and are unaffected by oxidising or reducing atmospheres.
