The Operational Group, specialists in energy efficiency and process optimisation, has won a major Australian client just three months after opening a new office in Melbourne. In October, Operational added to its UK, French, Spanish and Dutch offices by opening a new business in Melbourne to service Australia, New Zealand and South East Asia; and the office has already secured a contract with Amcor Flexibles - Australia's largest manufacturer of plastic, fibre and metal packaging. The new Australasian branch of Operational is being headed by Andrew Maxwell, who left his position as Divisional Technical Manager with a major packaging company to join Operational and establish this Australian office.

Operational offers specialist engineering services to a wide range of customers with a particular focus on the printing and flexible packaging industries.

The company's main area of expertise is process optimisation.

They identify problems in ducting and drying systems and suggest modifications and adaptations that can be made to make the process more energy efficient and environmentally friendly.

Amcor has employed Operational to optimise its processes and to help the company meet new environmental legislation regarding the emissions of VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds.) Mr Maxwell, who is Operations Director at Operational Australia, comments: 'Myself and my British colleague Jim Colston met with Amcor and arranged a series of site surveys.

This process confirmed that we could optimise the airflow on the presses by increasing recirculation, which delivered improved drying and reduced exhaust emissions.

The entire system would be monitored by LEL sensors to ensure the highest standards of operational safety would be achieved.

As a result, Operational will be able to deliver a safe, efficient process that will significantly reduce the on-going energy requirements of Amcor'.

UK MD Jim Colston comments: 'We're delighted to be working with such a forward-looking company as Amcor Flexibles.

We believe that our innovations and expertise will help them both save money and stay ahead of the challenges of environmental legislation.
